Board Members

In the early spring of 1977, the Reverend Jim Green , then Johnson City District Superintendent of United Methodist Church, and area Methodist churches got together to explore the need for a faith based telephone counseling ministry in Johnson City. Through their efforts, Contact Ministries was born.

After the 911 tragedy in New York City, the 911 numbers were so crowded with non-emergency phone calls, the federal government went to United Way of America to ask them to support a call center for Information and Referral nationally, called 211.  United Way agreed. Contact Ministries was chosen to serve as the 211 call center for the region, resulting in what is now Contact 211.

Since 1977, Contact has served hundreds of thousands of callers. We now average approximately 30,000 calls per year.
